Time Wasted

What a pathetic diary to be enshrined into the top spot here at Mydd.  Some people just can't let it go or just don't have other measures to unleash their inner anger of the Clintons.  They seem hell bent in devoting much of their energy on the every action or non-action of the Clinton's and attempting to lay blame on an imagined monolithic group known as "Hillary Supporters".

One just imagines how much energy is wasted during these rants.  Time that could be dedicated to wage an Anti-McCain campaign, time that could be used in promoting Obama's platform or time dedicated to the some of struggling Democrats running for congress.  What a waste.

Reality check.  The primaries are over.

Hillary Clinton is her own person, and made one hell of a run at the nomination.  She is an icon for the Democratic Party and will continue to be for many years.  She has loyal supporters, most have stated their support for Obama for the greater good of the party and the average American citizen.  HRC has done all that has been asked of her, and has done a mighty fine job considering the emotional and closely contested primary.  I will respect her and her supporters, because I could have easily been in their shoes.

As for the ones who won't make the jump.  It is their decision.

As for the aforementioned diary regarding Hillary and disrupting the convention, I have some views...

I don't know who's driving this rumour bus, but it sure as hell isn't Hilary Clinton.

I would argue that you might not be driving the bus but you're on board giving directions.

After all, there aren't any REAL stories to cover.

Yes there are...Why aren't you writing about them instead?

On another note: I am so fucking sick of the "Hillary was victimised by gender bias" meme I could puke.

Wow, and what rock did you crawl out from under?  Take the blinders off, sweetie...and do you kiss your kids with that mouth?

After February, she was toast. Stick a fork in her (and that is NOT a goddamned misogynist violence against women expression get over it), she'd have been better off quitting, end of story.

Yeah, that's what I would like to see in a person who is fighting for the ordinary American.  A person who wants Universial Healthcare, who wants to fight for the rights of women, minorities and the GLBT community, who cares about every single child in this country, who hates the GOP with every ounce of her being...Yeah just quit, when times get tough and give up.

She showed some true grit and wasn't going to give up on her vision of a fair America for everyone.  I'll take a hundred of her over a quitter.

Next time, try and use your time more wisely.

Democrats are pretty united right now, but we'd be more united if Clinton hadn't insisted on going on after there was no mathematical chance of her getting the nomination.  It created a lot of bad feelings, ran up tons of debt, and we're still dealing with the fallout.

maybe, maybe not (2.00 / 0)

WV had a great local story running about an Obama volunteer who had car trouble and was kinda concerned about what would happen to a black woman way out in the boonies. 'Course, the locals were helpful folk.

It's optics like that -- people taking pride in doin' good, even if you aren't gonna vote for someone...

It's people signing up to vote for Obama, even if they don't really think much of most Democrats.

I don't know. I really don't. But there's an argument that Hillary started a spirited debate -- and that Obama helped raise the consciousness of people that they too could have a handle on the events.

It's kind of sad that McCain was the only one to give a public townhall today and two non-candidates crushed him for media coverage.  Some will say it's a bad thing that McCain is fairly irrelevant as to whether Obama becomes president, but I happen to believe otherwise.

Another meta-diary, (none / 0)

this one complaining about a diary that was construed as anti-Hillary rather than anti-misogyny-meme.  You can complain about Maryscott's language (it's always been like that, and mine's no better, as you know), but many of us feel the same way about the way the misogyny argument has kept coming up in diaries by some of the posters here as a means of keeping the primary season melodrama alive.

Wouldn't it be better if instead of talking so much about Hillary as such a victim, we could focus on victory in November?  Maryscott's diary may have continued that discussion, and in that sense was unnecessary, but it only continued the same on-going dialogue that we have had a lot of here.

You know, I posted a long, heart-felt post in a previous meta-diary explaining why I was disgusted with some of the diaries making the rec list, and how I was trying hard to restrain myself from jumping in and writing my own diaries.  So here comes MaryScott, who doesn't realize how vicious things have become here (how many GBCW diaries do we need to notice that?) and she jumps in with the same kind of material, and WHOA!  The same people that have been calling for freedom of speech for dissidents against Obama (trolls like Catfish) are suddenly outraged!

So, I can't say I'm impressed with your outrage.  We all should have moved on a long time ago.  I think tonight, with the news of Obama's dramatic sudden concession to Bill, (the same man who can't  bring himself to say Obama is ready to be president), the post-Hillary partisans have been particularly feisty and hostile.

Re: Another meta-diary, (2.00 / 5)

Hey people are entitled to their own opinions, but to be so ignorant as to imply that there was no misogyny or sexism involved in the primary is a blatant mistruth.  And this coming from a staunch Obama supporter.

Was it the sole reason she lost?  Absolutely not, but to sweep it under the rug does this country no good in it's journey to a more perfect union.

Should we discount racism or homophobia as well?

All I'm saying is her diary is very divisive and continues the "pokes" at Clinton supporters.  And why?  Obama has won, why continually relive and rub salt in the wound?

On top of that she bitches at the people who are spreading this rumor about Clinton, but fails to recognize that people such as her posting diaries on the subject gives it legs.

It was a piss poor diary....

Re: Another meta-diary, (2.00 / 1)

but to be so ignorant as to imply that there was no misogyny or sexism involved in the primary is a blatant mistruth.  And this coming from a staunch Obama supporter.

I just went and reread the part of her diary that is in question.  It would be an extreme position to take that there was no misogyny or sexism involved in this primary.  That's not her contention.  her point was (and I kind of hate having to deconstruct things like this, but, whatever...) that hillary did not lose because of bias because she was running against a black man who suffers more from bias than she.  That seems a reasonable position to take and argue.

But only a couple of days ago, didn't we have a diary that made the rec list ("Bill Clinton is a racist") that became the focus of a pie-fight over over whether Bill Clinton was unfairly maligned for race-baiting during the primary.  And from there it wandered all over the place, much of it a condemnation of Obama.  And that diary was HARDLY an isolated instance.  There have been many diaries on here that accused Obama and his campaign of pursuing a racist strategy.  Some of them have made it to the rec list.

So, is tit for tat fair?  No, I don't think so.  I would prefer there was none of this.  But my (and others) complaints and calls to move on from the primary and to stop filling the rec list with old battles like this get little support from the people who rec those diaries.

Maybe there are some topics arising from the past primary season that are so sensitive that we should avoid them until after the election.  Is that such a bad idea?  When that gets better reception, I might be more receptive to your complaints about Maryscott O'Connor.

It certainly doesn't help the real candidate of this election (Obama) to have people defending the Clintons in a manner that works to Obama's detriment or to the detriment of his supporters or those in the media that supported him.

Oh, GAWD, what claptrap (1.75 / 4)

She didn't have more votes. She didn't. Period. This has been de-bunked so many times, it's stopped being ironically funny.

No one was challenging her candidacy in court. No one was demanding her birth certificate. NO ONE said ONE WORD about her church, her pastor, or her religious beliefs. No one told her she wasn't invited to a debate (unlike Nader, Paul, and Gravel). No one said "Girls can't be commander-in-chief." In fact, other candidates - and the other party - took her VERY seriously or they wouldn't have fought so hard against her.

I'll go you one better. She was treated better than Harriet Miers. When Miers was suggested as a SCOTUS pick - all outrageousness aside - what do you think the media talked about? Her qualifications, or even the lack of them? No. They spent days reporting about changes to her make-up, her hairstyle, and her choice of wardrobe. However you feel about Miers personally or her qualifications to be SCOTUS, neither Roberts nor Alito were scrutinized for their haircuts or choice of tie.

And how many women spoke out about that? ZERO. But crying sexism seems to be a selective practice and I for one believe it's wrong ALL the time, not just when it's my side of aisle.

The other diary was awful and I told them so, but this just makes the issue take two spots on the rec list instead of one. This should have been a comment, not a diary, and the last time we had people responding to diaries with diaries instead of comments was the Prayer-gate battle. I hope we can agree that that wasn't productive.

Re: Time Wasted (none / 0)

The lingering acrimony puzzles me. I would have been happy with any nominee from the Democratic array. Each brings something of value to the table.

The GOP is spinning out of orbit and in some way W's autistic attempt to expand the scope of the executive has paradoxically diminished it, particularly in the international arena but also in the realm of sound stewardship of the economy as referee of excess.

And it is also of some interest to me to see people such as Gore, Jimmy Carter and others find valuable ways to have impacts without the hindrance of elected office.

Ms Clinton, Mr. Edwards and all the others have valuable contributions to make and occasions to rise to as we all deal with the aftermath of 8 years of pillage, looting and damage as well as neglect of problems that have only gotten exponentially worse.

To be overly anguished by a particular contenders loss seems to me to give them short shrift for all the other potential they may realize in as yet unknown circumstances.

I believe deeply in the value of contribution potential in each one as the scope of the post Bush mess will want input in many arena's beyond this diminished and encumbered Executive office.
